About Potratz Farm

“The most beautiful things of this world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart”
- Helen Keller

At Potratz Farm we realize that each individual is on a unique journey of growth and relational development. Our facilitators give enough instruction so participants feel safe and equipped to complete the course agenda. The real learning happens when the students interact with the horses and each other.

Why horses? Horses are herd and prey animals. Their survival depends on their ability to read the environment and energy around them and to be able to communicate with other members of the herd. Peace, play, and food are what motivates a horse to work for humans. If a person (a predator) can communicate to a horse that following them is safe and peaceful the horse will willingly work. This creates a perfect environment for people to learn self-awareness, clarity of focus, presence, and effective communication. Learning these skills is invaluable in the ability to work effectively with people. Most of all working with horses is fun!

Each of our horses has a unique “horsenality.” Just as in the world of humans, to get the best out of them one must adjust their leadership style.

"...And the opportunity to work with a variety of horses with different dispositions helped to illustrate that tactics are not necessarily one-size-fits-all. You need to be flexible and adaptive." - Jon Kloptosky
